It's possible that you want it that way, but I wouldn't recommend that you
actually do it that way. For a couple of reasons. First of all there are
some sticky details that you've got to get right before you even have that
as a possiblity (I won't go into them here). Secondly, there won't be anything
on the files to make it clear that you've changed the output frequency. This
can lead to errors if you (or someone else) assumes the output frequency is
24 hours for all of the primary files.
A much better option would be to output two sets of files the primary
history files every 24 hours, and a auxillary set of history files output
every 6 hours. If you have restrictions on data storage you could just
output everything on a 6 hour interval, and then average files to get your
daily output you want for the begining. But, unless you are really tight on
datastorage or doing a long simulation, it seems doubtful that you couldn't
function with both daily and 6-hour data.
