Hello. This is in response to Uma Bhatt's question of 10/25/94.
We have had some experience with the problem mentioned.
It is our understanding that this error occurrs when temperatures get too
cold in the upper atmosphere. To correct the problem, we have resorted
to "jump-starting" the CCM1. We restart the model from the last
successfully written history tape, increasing the CO2 by an order of
magnitude and allowing one new history tape to be written with the elevated
CO2. We then return to normal CO2 and try continuing the run. If 1
history tape of elevated CO2 proves to be insufficient, we would then
use 2 tapes of elevated CO2. We should warn you, however, that once this
problem appears in a particular run, it often comes back again & again at
various points within the run.
