Subject: hardware for ccm2 and mm5

Hi,

We are looking into machines to run ccm2 and mm5.

I've compiled and run ccm2 on a Sparc20-514 (4 processor, 256MB RAM). It
looks like the parallelizing compiler works and running with 2 cpus cut
40% off the time of a run using 1 cpu (48hrs vs 29hrs). Could possibly use
more than 2 cpus.

Still not as fast as the IBM 390/590. Should faster 64bit Sun ultrasparc
and other MP machines (DEC, SGI, IBM, low end cray) be considered?

What are some of the machines that ccm-users are using?

Are there any non-portability issues with ccm2 and mm5 or other things
that should be considered?

I'll post a summary.

Thanks for your time, Jim
