Hi,
We use output from the CCM3 model to drive an atmospheric chemistry model.
We are trying to determine the sub grid-scale variance of the vertical
velocity in each grid-box, which we need for another parameterization.
Traditionally this variance has been calculated from the turbulent kinetic
energy (TKE), but I don't see TKE among the standard outputs of CCM3.6.6.
According to the CCM3.6.6 description, there is a turbulent velocity scale
(wt) used in the boundary layer diffusion parameterization. However, we
need values for the entire troposphere. It is also not clear to me whether
the values of wt are comparable to the values that would be derived from
TKE.
Has anyone extracted TKE, or otherwise calculated the sub grid-scale
variance of vertical velocity, from CCM3?
Yours truly,
Philip
