This is a common question. See the ccm-users guide on how to get pressure from
the hybrid coordinates...

Once you have pressure for each grid point and each hybrid layer you can vertically
interpolate to the ECMWF data levels. Then you can compare the model to
ECMWF analysis directly.
NCAR Graphics package NCL4.1 (NCAR Command Language) has a routine for doing
this directly.
