3.5.1.1 History File Format

The structure of a history file is illustrated in Figure 3.7. One history file contains up to MFILT time samples, with each time sample consisting of three header records followed by plat latitude data records ( plat is a Fortran parameter set to the number of latitudes for a model run). A latitude data record is composed of a latitude index, a longitude count, and all data fields with the given latitude index. Details of the latitude data records are discussed in "Latitude Data Records" . History files are written to the disk sequentially and in machine native binary format. Thus in general you will need to read history tapes on the same machine that wrote them out.
