The NCAR Community Climate Model (CCM3)

The NCAR Community Climate Model (CCM3) is no longer supported, use the Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) for the latest model that includes limited support for use of the community.

II.C CCM3.6 T42 5-Year (01-05) Simulation: /ERIK/csm/cls3331a

Table of Contents for this Case:

A. Case Description.

/ERIK/csm/cls3331a is a 5-Year (01-05) seasonal simulation, using climatological monthly averaged SSTs, with CCM3.3.31 (similar climate as CCM3.6). The SST data set is the Standard CCM3 T42 climatological monthly averaged SSTs values provided with CCM3.6.

/ERIK/csm/cls3331a covers the period from September 1, year 0 to Febuary 3, year 6. The atmosphere Initial Conditions dataset was the standard CCM3.2 dataset. LSM (Land Surface Model) was spun up from arbitrary conditions.

B. Initial and Boundary Datasets.

The initial and boundary datasets used in Case /ERIK/csm/cls3331a are:

      NCDATA  = 'SEP1.T42.0697.nc',
      BNDTVS  = 'STR-sst.T42.0596.nc',
      BNDTVO  = 'ozn.0596.r8.nc',
      finidat = 'arbitrary initialization'

and resolution parameters:

      HRES  T42              PCNST   1
      PLEV   18              PTRM   42
      PLON  128              PTRN   42
      PLAT   64              PTRK   42

The SEP1.T42.0697.nc dataset is the same as the CCM3.2 initial condition dataset SEP1.T42.0596.nc, except it has been converted to netCDF and it has the SGH field. The SST dataset STR-sst.T42.0596.nc is also identical to the standard CCM3.6 dataset T42M5079.nc.

C. Output History Datasets.

/ERIK/csm/cls3331a covers the period from September 1, year 0 to Febuary 3, year 6 The data are packed 4-to-1. Daily averages were also output to the hFALSE series of auxiliary tapes. Daily maximums were also output to the hFALSE series of auxiliary tapes. Daily minimums were also output to the hFALSE series of auxiliary tapes. 6 hour instantaneous output files were output to the hFALSE series of auxiliary tapes. The output data from this run were written in CCM2 history tape format.

The MSS pathnames for the auxiliary daily-averaged output data from this case are:

     /ERIK/csm/cls3331a/ccm3/hist/hFALSEnnnn

where nnnn = 0001, 0002, ..., 0100. The MSS pathnames for the auxiliary daily maximum output data from this case are:

     /ERIK/csm/cls3331a/ccm3/hist/hFALSEnnnn

where nnnn = 0001, 0002, ..., 0100. The MSS pathnames for the auxiliary daily minimum output data from this case are:

     /ERIK/csm/cls3331a/ccm3/hist/hFALSEnnnn

where nnnn = 0001, 0002, ..., 0100. The MSS pathnames for the auxiliary 6-hour instantaneous output data from this case are:

     /ERIK/csm/cls3331a/ccm3/hist/hFALSEnnnn

where nnnn = 0001, 0002, ..., 0100.

Remember CCM3 is now unsupported, use CAM for the latest Atmospheric Model for use of climate science.
