Projections for the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways

Long-term scenarios integrating future changes in climate and society play an important role in research on global environmental change. The Shared Socioeconomic Pathways, or SSPs, provide a set of five alternative global futures of societal development. Demographic Projections for the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways

NCAR researchers and colleagues have developed urbanization and spatial population projections for the SSPs. The urbanization projections provide country-specific outcomes for the national-level percent of the population that is urban consistent with each SSP narrative, while the spatial population projections provide gridded global population outcomes for both urban and rural population consistent with the SSPs.
